Troubleshooting

Most issues with CallerGenie come down to two things: background battery restrictions preventing the app from running when a call arrives, and missing overlay permission needed to display the caller ID popup. Both are easy to fix.

Battery Optimization
Keeping CallerGenie active in the background so it can screen calls in real time.

  • Go to Apps or Application Manager.
  • Find and tap CallerGenie.
  • Tap Battery or Power saving.
  • Choose No restrictions, Don't optimize, or Allow background activity.

Don't see your phone brand listed? The general steps above work on most Android devices. Search "disable battery optimization [your phone model]" for model-specific guidance.
Overlay Permission
Enabling CallerGenie to display the live caller ID popup over other apps.
Why is this permission needed?

The "Display over other apps" permission allows CallerGenie to show a caller information popup on your screen when a call arrives — even while you're using another app. Without it, the live caller ID window cannot appear.

How to Enable
  • Open your phone's Settings.
  • Go to Apps or Application Manager.
  • Find and tap CallerGenie.
  • Look for Display over other apps, Draw over other apps, or Appear on top.
  • Toggle the permission to Enabled or Allowed.
Once this permission is granted, the live caller ID will appear correctly for all incoming calls. You only need to set this once.
Still having trouble?
If CallerGenie still isn't working after following these steps, check that you have the latest version installed, then restart your phone. You can also reach our support team through the app's Settings menu.
