Keeping Caller Genie Running in the Background

Some smartphones use aggressive battery-saving features that can stop Caller Genie from working correctly. To ensure our app can identify calls in real-time, you may need to adjust your phone's battery settings.

General Steps to Disable Battery Optimization

The exact steps can vary, but here is a general guide:

  • Open your phone's Settings.
  • Go to Apps or Application Manager.
  • Find and tap on Caller Genie.
  • Look for a Battery or Power saving section.
  • Choose an option like No restrictions, Don't optimize, or Allow background activity.

Instructions for Specific Phone Brands

Samsung

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Caller Genie > Battery.
  • Select Unrestricted.
  • Also, check Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > Background usage limits and ensure Caller Genie is not in the list of sleeping or deep sleeping apps.

OnePlus

  • Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > See all apps > Caller Genie > Battery.
  • Select Don't optimize.
  • Also, go to Settings > Battery > Battery optimization, find Caller Genie, and select Don't optimize.

Xiaomi (MIUI)

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps > Caller Genie.
  • Enable Autostart.
  • Go to Battery saver and select No restrictions.

Huawei (EMUI)

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Apps > Caller Genie > Power usage details.
  • Turn on App launch and set it to Manage manually. Ensure all toggles (Auto-launch, Secondary launch, Run in background) are enabled.

Enabling Overlay for Live Caller ID

To show you who's calling in real-time, Caller Genie needs permission to display its caller ID window over other apps. If you don't see the live caller ID, you may need to enable this permission.

Why is this permission necessary?

The "Display over other apps" (or "Draw over other apps") permission allows Caller Genie to show the caller information popup on your screen when you receive a call, even when you are using another application. Without it, the app cannot display the live caller ID.

How to Enable Overlay Permission

The steps can vary slightly depending on your phone, but you can typically find the setting here:

  • Open your phone's Settings.
  • Go to Apps or Application Manager.
  • Find and tap on Caller Genie.
  • Look for a setting named Display over other apps, Draw over other apps, or Appear on top.
  • Ensure this permission is enabled or allowed for Caller Genie.

Once enabled, the live caller ID should appear correctly for all incoming calls.
